La Petit Mumu

It pays to be curious.

While browsing and making a mental notes of what I liked in Kapok Lifestyle Store in Sun Street, a certain area of the shop slash cafe was being prepped for what looked like a launch.
I approached the lady, who uncannily resembles Armi Millare of Up Dharma Down, arranging the dolls.

This lady turned out to be Fion Ko, illustrator and creator of Le Petit Mumu.

I chatted with her a bit and learned that she just finished an exhibition of her illustrations in Taiwan and went back to Hong Kong, her hometown, to work with a toy manufacturer to create a second run of limited edittion Mumu toys. Instantly I became a fan. She asked me to stay and have cupcakes and tea.

Born in Hong Kong, Fion lived and studied abroad in Kyoto and England, after graduating from the Surrey Institute of Art & Design in the UK, she returned to her hometown and further studied fashion design in Hong Kong.
After working in the fashion industry for five years, Fion started her new life as an artist. She creates her private world on paper, unleashing her imagination to explore a variety of blissful scenarios. No philosophy or ultimate messages behind any creations, except pure love and hate.
Fion’s works include a small quantity of ceramics and a series of drawings titled ‘Lost & not found’. You will also find the first 3-D mu mu doll which was created originally from one of Fion’s early drawings; a blue raincoat mu mu standing in the rainbow rain, and a limited colour collection of mu mu dolls that will be selling for charity, to support ECSAF (End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation).
